The Blame Game

Referenced Scriptures: John 9:1-5 MSG, Genesis 3:12-13
Walking down the street, Jesus saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked, "Rabbi, who sinned: this man or his parents, causing him to be born blind?" Jesus said, "You're asking the wrong question. You're looking for someone to blame. There is no such cause-effect here. Look instead for what God can do. (John 9:1-5 MSG)
This is a very interesting look into our human nature and the nature of God. So in this passage the disciples were walking with Jesus and they see a blind man ask what caused this man to be blind? How often do we do this very same thing? We have a very primal need to put blame on someone or something for any and every circumstance. Eve in the Garden of Eden blamed the serpent (Gen 3:13), Adam blamed Eve (Gen 3:12), we blame our parents and even at times God for things that happen in our lives. Why do we look at things through this perspective? Why do we have such a need to point the finger on someone or something else?
Jesus tries here to show the disciples (and us) that instead of playing the blame game there is another way. We should look at every situation and say how can God's name be lifted up? How can God move in this area? We should look instead for what God can do. We love to blame someone or something for anything and everything but maybe it's time to look at things from the perspective of Jesus.

He Knows You

Referenced Scriptures: 1 Samuel 15:22, 1 Thessalonians 5:19
“Tell me,” Samuel said. “Does the Lord really want sacrifices and offerings? No! He doesn’t want your sacrifices. He wants you to obey him

Today was a very interesting day. Just another typical day (I thought), I spent time in prayer and in my Word and was feeling pretty good about it but God had more much more in mind. As the day went on I was led to a very powerful song, and as you know God has very frequently spoke to me through music. The song at the bottom of this post for those of you who are interested. A Guest Speaker at my church played this video at our church this past week and I didn't get a chance to really let it soak in. Today I woke with it in my spirit so I listened to a few times but it didn't hit me (break me) until towards the end of the day. This entire song talks about how God knows us. I mean really think about that He knows you. The lyrics go on to say, "nothing is hidden from Your sight, wherever I go, You find me You know every detail of my life and You are God and You don't miss a thing." If you stop and really allow that to sink in it will completely break you.

Through this God showed me something. I was led to 1 Samuel 15 where Saul thought he had done exactly what God had instructed him to do, but he didn't. Samuel then completely puts it out there in verse 22 where he tells Saul that God doesn't want sacrifices He wants obedience. The moment I read this, I broke, and had to go get alone with God. I found myself broken, in the single stall of my work restroom, in tears, and on the floor crying out to God. During this prayer time I spent with God another portion of scripture was place in my spirit; 1 Thessalonians 5:19, which says, Do not quench the Spirit.

God showed me that I have not been 100% obedient to what He has told me to do in various areas of my life and in this disobedience I have even at times quenched the Spirit from moving. He also revealed that I tend to get so caught up in serving (or sacrifice) but all the serving (sacrifice) in the world will never replace the fact that God also wants my obedience. If you've been around the church circles for any amount of time you will hear it if you listen. The people that always talk about how much work they are doing for the kingdom and how busy they are being a servant for God. I know this is true because I've done it myself. God doesn't want ONLY want our sacrifices He wants our obedience to ALL He instructs us to do. Do you even realize that God desires a personal relationship with you? I mean this is why we were created, but we are just too busy being busy that we actually don't even have any time for Him.

So He just stands there waiting for you. He's waiting for you to understand that He knows you and desperately wants you to know Him. It's an intimacy thing and some of us will eventually give into it falling bruised, broken, and shaken into the loving arms of Christ others fight it and never find peace on this earth. Either way we are intimately giving ourselves to something. Why not intimately give yourself into the arms of the One who has memorized you, the One who knows you.

By Faith

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. (Hebrews 11:6 ESV)
Another well-known and heavily quoted scripture by most Christians around the world. The Bible tells us in the beginning of Hebrews 11 (verse 1), Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. This assurance in which things we cannot see is where we tend to slip up from time to time. We tend to allow other things dictate our faith; the two biggest ones for me personally are my eyes and my feelings. I tend to allow what I can see and feel dictate the level of my faith rather than just trusting God. So it's clear we can't please God without faith so we need to learn how to trust him with complete faith and not allow other things get in the way.

Now that we understand that let me share this with you. The past week or so I have found myself saying to God in prayer something like this, "Lord, so much of what I am doing right now is being done purely on faith." Meaning, I wasn't "feeling" it, I was just doing it because I knew it was what I was supposed to be doing. Such as, reading my Bible, praying, and going to church. Almost immediately God spoke one single word back to me within my spirit, the word he spoke back was, "Good." He then proceeded to show me that regardless of what I am feeling or going through at any given time all my actions of Biblical obedience and service should always be done in faith. Faith that God is going to do what the Bible says He will do regardless of what is going on around me. I was unknowingly in-line with Biblical principles based purely on faith and obedience as it should always be. It should never be based on how we feel. The enemy deceived me for a bit because I didn't "feel" that God was there and had me thinking I had missed it or that something was wrong with me and I actually believed it for a while.

You see we tend to only "have faith" when we can logically see how God will work things out. Now I ask you; is that truly faith? Just because you can't see the entire path God has you waking down it doesn't mean that you can't take the next step on that path in faith knowing and trusting that He is in control. Truth of the matter is, there will be times in life that you will need to take step forward without seeing the whole picture. This is called faith and without this it is impossible to please God. The enemy will often use these times to raise doubt, fear, and uncertainty within our mind and this is exactly what he did recently with me. I didn't "feel" God so I began to think that something was wrong. Although because of good habits ("PRAISE GOD") such as reading scripture, prayer, and church attendance I was actually in obedience to God's word, but because I was allowing my feelings to rule me the enemy was able to deceive me into thinking I was lost because I didn't "feel" anything. I mean how crazy is that? This also led me to another re-revelation that our feelings are ridiculously fickle and we need to STOP relying on them in spiritual matters. We walk by faith (not feelings) see 2 Corinthians 5:7.

So regardless of how you feel (see 1 John 3:20) just hang in there and keep doing what you know is right according to the Bible and God will take care of you. Don't let the enemy talk you into believe that just because you don't feel it then there must be something wrong with you. Remember the Bible tells us a very sobering truth about the enemy "he is a liar and the father of lies" (see John 8:44).

Struggling?

"Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me." (Luke 9:23 NLT)

God has so graciously revealed something to me that I'd like to share in hopes that it will encourage and help someone out there. The sin that we struggle with is just that sin; Jesus died for this sin as well as all others. For a moment think about this. Do you think having the sins of the world thrust upon him was an easy thing for Jesus? I don't think any of can say that it was an easy thing, even for Jesus. Yes, he was God in the flesh but I very much believe He still felt every strike to his face, every thorn, every nail, and yes, every sin! He
struggled as He carried the cross just like we all have struggled attempting to carry our own crosses. God's word says to "take up your cross and follow me," it never says it would be easy or that we wouldn't struggle from time to time but it simply says to take it up and follow him DAILY. The word "daily" indicates that this is going to be a continual thing, ongoing, something that we will have to always intentionally work at. So if you have found yourself struggling to carry your own cross, just stay in your Word, stay plugged into church, surround yourself with strong Believers and trust that God is faithful to complete what He started in you (see Philippians 1:6).

Here are a couple of scriptures that have really help me push through and carry my own cross.
"The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again." - Proverbs 24:16a

"Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness." - Lamentations 3:22-23
