God, I Can't See You...

I tend to have pretty regular routine of reading the Bible and spending time in prayer when I get up first thing in the morning. Now does this happen every day, not always, but I believe I need a structured level of discipline in my life because I know how I am. Throughout this past week no matter how hard I tried to press in and study and pray it just seemed a bit more difficult to find God. These instances are inevitable, after all there are times in the Bible where God didn't speak. Some Biblical scholars estimate the time laps between the Old and New Testament was some 400 years! 400 years where God was silent and I am getting antsy about a week? Anyway it was just an odd week where I felt I was looking for God but I couldn't find Him. It turns out He was there, I just couldn't  see Him. With the hustle and bustle of life my view of Him had become dimly lit. This can and will happen so we have to be on guard for it and know the truth of that Jeremiah 29:13 that says, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

In the wake of the Aurora Colorado tragedy I know there are many that will try to make sense of it and attempt to "see God" in midst of this madness, myself included. So how do we unpack and process this as humans let alone "Romans-8:28-believing-Christians"? How does this scripture begin to help in this situation, "We know that God works all things together for good for the ones who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose." Many will shake their fists at God right now and demand answers. I've even heard the comments already, "How can a good and loving God allow this to happen?" Truth of the matter is, I don't know and I don't believe any one can answer that question with 100% absolution and accuracy. We are humans with God-given volition and decisions we make will in some way impact us all. It's only through the Grace of God that we can begin to hope that we will make positive and Godly decisions.

Now I know that I've seen God work in amazing ways in my lifetime. I've also seen a good deal of hurt & pain in life but throughout that same hurt & pain was indescribable love and comfort from God. This world we live in is indeed a fallen world and because of man's sinful nature (Psalm 51:5) it's inevitable that we will see horrendous things because of the fall of man (see Genesis 3). For a moment just stop and look around and think about this logical sequence of cause and effect?  We (humanity) slowly take God out of our society. The masses poke fun of people that live life with integrity and try to the best of their ability live a life that is pleasing to God. So it quickly becomes the trend to say things like, "yea I believe in higher power," and "I'm a spiritual person" or "there are many ways to heaven", but mention that you believe that Jesus died for the sins of the world and that He is returning one day and immediately your labeled as a fanatic. So, we do all this God-extraction from our everyday lives and then we have the nerve to blame God when tragedy strikes, ask Him why, and demand answers....Really!!!???

So understanding that we've caused many of our own issues; does it make it any easier to swallow these type of events like the one we've seen in Colorado this week? Absolutely not, but the fact is God is still on His throne and He is still a God of mercy, love, peace at His very nature; not the world's nature. I truly believe in the wake of these events people turn to God. We tend to only call out to God when we are forced to. So does God cause these events to happen; NO! Could He stop them; I believe He could, but there is a purpose and reason for everything. I've also come to learn and accept there are just some questions that will not be answered on this side of eternity. Please join with me and set some time aside to pray for those affected by the shootings in Aurora as well as pray for our nation. If we've ever need a touch from God; it's now.

(PLEASE) Take Care & God bless,

-E
