Referenced scripture: Proverbs 15:1
A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare. – Proverbs 15:1
What we say matters but how we say it matters just as much according to Proverbs 15:1. I recently found myself talking with God and I asked him to change me
and that I didn’t want my actions or words to be “reactive” of those around me.
Immediately Proverbs 15:1 was placed into my spirit and He showed me that many
of the words I say are reactive and deflected back to others with the same velocity
that they used. If they answer me with harsh sarcasm then I hit them back with the same. If they use condescending tones then I match it back at them bit by bit. Why? Why, do I do this? I can’t truly answer that for everyone
but I think Proverbs 15:1 is a great reminder that we all need to really try to
remember especially when interacting with others. What are you attempting to
imply with your words and your tone? Are you even trying to imply anything or is it simply that you may
need to adjust a few things so others don’t take things the wrong way? We’ve all
done it, we'll lash out at someone after they’ve asked a question or as we call it “bite
their head off”. So that being said, let’s remember what Proverbs says
regarding how we answer (and interact) with people. Christianity is a process
and we are all running this race together and how we talk to each other really
does matter.
